Natural Hair
We recommend having your ends assessed regularly and aiming for a trim approximately every 3 months, particularly if you wear braids frequently. Your hair's condition may mean you need trims more or less often. Regular trims remove split and damaged ends and help you retain healthy length, rather than trimming unnecessarily.
Hair health comes first at GracedBeauty. Our trichologist specialises in hair care, and a thorough consultation helps us tailor treatments and styling to your individual hair and scalp needs. We build a healthy foundation before creating your finished style.
The right treatment depends on your hair's condition, scalp, routine and goals. Whether you are looking for hydration, moisture or help with fragile hair, a consultation can guide your choice. Check the service description in our Natural Hair booking calendar and contact us if you are unsure.
Focus on scalp health, moisture and reducing breakage. Gently detangle, protect your ends and keep a consistent care routine. Oils can help lubricate hair, but neither Jamaican black castor oil nor rosemary oil is guaranteed to accelerate growth. Always dilute rosemary essential oil in a suitable carrier oil and patch-test before use.
Yes. Afro hair is versatile, and we consider your texture, density, hair condition and desired finish when tailoring a cut or style. From curly cuts to flat twists, the aim is a look that works with your hair and supports your hair-care needs.
Read your chosen service's booking description before your visit, as preparation depends on the treatment or style. Follow any washing and detangling instructions, and tell us about scalp concerns, breakage or recent chemical treatments so we can consider them during your consultation.
Braids
We generally recommend at least 2–4 inches of natural hair for many braided styles, although some styles may require more length. Texture, density and technique also influence what is achievable. If your hair is shorter, please contact us before booking so we can advise on suitable options.
Box braids and Fulani braids typically last around 6 weeks, depending on your hair, style and maintenance. We recommend removing them by 8 weeks at the latest. As your hair grows, added weight and tension can increase the risk of breakage. Remove them earlier if you experience persistent pain, irritation or stress around your hairline.
Allow your natural hair to breathe for at least one week between protective styles. Use this time to cleanse your scalp, moisturise, detangle gently and assess your ends. If your hair or scalp feels dry, tender or weakened, give it longer to recover.
Yes. Please arrive with your hair clean, thoroughly detangled and free from heavy product build-up, unless your booked service includes a wash and blow-dry. Check the booking description for any instructions about bringing braiding hair. Clean hair and a healthy scalp provide a good foundation.
Braids can be protective when installed and maintained correctly, but styles that are too tight, heavy or worn too long can cause breakage and traction-related hair loss. Your braids should feel secure but comfortable, not painful. Tell your stylist immediately about pulling, headaches or discomfort. If your hair is fragile, thinning or breaking, book a consultation first.
Keep your scalp clean and moisturised, use a light leave-in product where appropriate and dry your hair thoroughly after washing. Protect your braids at night with a satin bonnet or silk scarf. Avoid excessive pulling, heavy product build-up and unnecessary tension; use oils sparingly if your scalp tolerates them.
Wigs & Weaves
With proper care, a wig installation typically lasts around 1–2 weeks, depending on the installation method, your lifestyle and maintenance. Avoid excessive moisture around the lace and hairline, and follow your stylist's aftercare advice to keep the finish fresh.
Gently wrap your hairline and wig with a silk or satin scarf before bed to reduce friction and help keep the install secure. If a small section of lace lifts, only use a suitable adhesive that is compatible with your install and safe for your skin, following its instructions. Never apply it to irritated skin or force the lace down. Book professional maintenance if lifting is significant.
Yes, wig cornrows are included in the price of our wig installation service, preparing your natural hair for the install. Whether you need to bring your own wig or bundles depends on the service, so check the booking description. Any hair you supply should be clean, detangled and ready for installation unless preparation is included.
A frontal is a 13×6 lace piece that runs from ear to ear, offering more parting and styling versatility, including half up, half down styles. A closure comes in 4×4, 5×5 and 6×6 and covers only the front part of your head, so it is typically styled with a middle or side part. Your stylist can help you choose the right finish for your lifestyle.
A leave-out weave is a sew-in where a small section of natural hair is left out around the parting or hairline to blend with the extensions. Your hair must be suitable in length, texture and condition for blending. It can typically be worn for 6–8 weeks, depending on your hair and maintenance, and should be professionally removed within the advised timeframe. Avoid excessive heat on your leave-out.
Keep your scalp clean, moisturise your natural hair as needed and make sure it dries thoroughly after washing. Avoid tight cornrows and heavy product build-up. Washing a wig while installed can affect adhesive and lace, so follow your stylist's advice about removal, cleaning and reinstallation. Protective styling does not replace regular hair care; have persistent itching, soreness, thinning or breakage assessed.
